An ideal short break in Cornwall

  • 4 reviews
They included walking on the Southwest Coastal Path, visiting local gardens (Trevarno) and National Trust properties (Glendurgan, St Michael's Mount, Levant Beam Engine), relaxing on the beautiful Clowance estate, and enjoying good food in local restaurants.

Quick Tips:

There are excellent Tesco supermarkets in Camborne, Helston, and Penzance.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is essential to explore the area.
Best Things Nearby:
The Clowance Estate, Southwest Coastal Path, Trevarno Gardens, and National Trust properties

Best Things About the Resort:
The units are set in a beautiful estate with mature trees, a lake, and wildlife. The self-guided walk is a delight.

Resort Experience:
The unit was warm and welcoming, with comfortable furniture and CD, DVD, and video player. We stayed in the Coach House and were delighted to feed the ducks that came to our patio doors for bread in the morning.

On arrival, we were given a leaflet that gave details of a self-guided walk around the estate. We went out after our evening meal and watched the bats as they came out of the woods to feed on insects over the lake. It was a magical experience made even better by a beautiful sunset reflected in the water. The swans had cygnets and other water birds had their young. The wooden sculptures of bears and the fairy grotto were a magnet for children and the young at heart. The beautiful boathouse and tree house were almost finished, and we admired the workmanship.

The gardens around the reception were beautiful, as was the pool area.

We cannot rate Clowance highly enough.

Restaurant | "The Admiral Benbow"

We found this gem on a Sunday evening, when most other restaurants were closed. Halfway down Chapel Street is an unusual inn and restaurant with a mariners theme named after the famous 17th-century Admiral Benbow.

Decorating the inn are cannon and figure heads, much of it authentic, being brought up by divers from some of the many wrecks found off the notorious Cornish coast.

The inn was originally converted from an old cottage, and from the front, the outside still has a quaint feel with its small paned windows. One unusual feature is a smuggler on the roof.

The menu was extensive and featured seafood and meats. The food was delicious, the service friendly and efficient.

Restaurant

This converted boat shed in the docks area of Penzance is a real treat. The food is delicious, the menu varied, and the staff very friendly. We ate there on our wedding anniversary, which was a Monday night. We did not make a reservation, but the place was comfortably full and everyone enjoyed their meals.
