Long Weekend Golf Trip to Myrtle Beach

A May 2005 trip to Myrtle Beach by dpslade

My old college friends and I regroup every year for an annual golf weekend.

Broadway on the Beach is the best spot for nightlife--lots of different bars/restaurants that fit just about any taste. The only downfall is that it lacks some character and feels more like a manufactured city (like a Disney resort).

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

You can't walk anywhere, really, as the main road is way too busy with traffic. Taxi cabs are somewhat easy to catch, but don't wait until bar time, or you could be waiting for a LONG time.
These are rental condos--very spacious and modern. The units themselves are great for a group of friends. The only downfall is that they are so far from everything, although we did get around fine with taxi cabs.

Sea Captains House RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Sea Captain's House"

The Sea Captain is right on the beach, which makes for pleasant scenery. You can get there early and enjoy a cocktail down by the water in their backyard, which is on the beach. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

Attraction

This is a fun place, but VERY crowded. The "dueling" pianos are tremendously entertaining, but it is loud and crowded, so don't expect a quiet table to chat with your friends.

Attraction | "Myrtle Beach National - Kings North Course"

The King's North Course is the crown jewel of the three Myrtle national courses. It is very challenging and such a beautiful course. They do a phenomenal job with the grounds.

Attraction | "Myrtle Beach National - South Creek Course"

South Creek is the least appealing of the three courses at Myrtle National; it's like the unwanted step child of the group, as it is obvious that they put more effort into maintaining the other courses than this one.

It is a cheap round, but you get what you pay for.

Attraction

This is a beautiful course that is very well maintained. A couple holes run alongside the Waterway, which make for spectacular scenery. It's not too hard, but not too easy either, a great intermediate course.
