A travel journal to Coral Gables by Columbus

There are plenty of excellent restaurants in Coral Gables, but trying to find one according to your actual needs and desire is sometimes confusing.

From French to Italian. From American to Seafood. From Cuban to Mexican etc... You can find a variety of different cuisines around Coral Gables to satify your taste and mood.

Quick Tips:

Most of the restaurants in the "Gables" require reservations at least 24 hours in advance, in particular during weekends. There are some, nevertheless, where no waiting is needed but those are not the exceptional ones or the fast food type restaurants.

Best Way To Get Around:

Valet parking is available at most of the restaurants in this area. If you are staying in one of the hotels in the downtown area you can walk.

Les HallesBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Brasserie Les Halles"

City of Light comes to City Beautiful. A classic brasserie but with great, fast French food. Don't miss the celeri remoulade, onion soup, steak-frite-salade, roast chicken, blood sausage and the best cassoulet south of the Les Halles in Atlanta. Noisy but very French even the waiters have some difficulties with their English making it more Parisian!

Diego's RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Very Spanish environment, service is excellent and very attentive. Spanish cooking from a heady crock of hot garlic soup to fresh sardines to Serrano ham, tripe to paella. Best items come from a wood-fired oven; baby lamb, whole bream, snapper for two in rock salt and the very best roast baby pork in town. A place we enjoy with family, friends or business associates.

ClaudiusBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This Italian restaurant has the decor and menu of a new, global Roman empire. You have to try the spinach wilted with wild mushrooms or the freshly made fettuccine with Florida lobster. The rack of lamb is out of this world. This elegant business-oriented restuarant at lunchtime turns into classic old country Italian in the evenings with late-night piano bar. Extensive wine list.

Gallery CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Gallerycafe"

Restaurant shares space with an art gallery, which provides an interesting and sophisticated atmosphere and clientele. Food is good, with sizable portions. Don't miss the white pizza, with top-notch homemade crust, plus lobster ravioli as a special. We had the filet mignon which we found it to be tender and delicious. The delicious cakes and sorbet at the end are to die for!

Norman'sBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

An evening at Norman's is a real treat to your taste; abandon yourself to your senses and come away exhilarated. Norman Van Aken is a master who cooks with an intinctive understanding of his ingredients. Best bet; the weeknight degustation menu, a parade of exquisitely presented dishes. Service is impeccable. There is no other place like it in Coral Gables. This is the place to bring your loved one to enjoy the evening.

The place is gorgeous. Soft, ochre walls and columns are hand-painted and the feel is of a happy, tropical house. The food is vibrant in taste and color, as delicious as it is beautiful. We always ask for the rack of lamb and jerk double pork chops which are both delicious. Don't miss the chocolate mango tower or the banana fritters for dessert.

La DoradaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This Spanish fish house has every variety that swims and serves it up with style and grace. Excellent appetizers, don't miss tiny stamed clams with garlic or the fried calamari. Their seafood soup with saffron is worth trying. For an entrée, we had the whole fish packed in rock salt and roasted. It's large enough to be shared by two. For dessert we always have the "natilla catalana" which is a type of spanish custard.

GrillfishBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Fresh fish and friendly prices is what you are going to find in this small but active restuarant. The kitchen is open for you to take a look from the main dining room. The menus are large boards that can be seen at every angle from the restuarant. There is a bar. All fish are prepared in different ways according to your taste. Dining outside by the terrace is nice in the evenings when it's not to hot. Key Lime Pie for dessert is our favorite here.

AbbaracciBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Host and owner Nino Pernetti is restaurateur extraordinaire. He knows everyone who is anyone if he doesn't recognize you, it means you haven't arrived. This can be wonderful, if you are one of the regulars, but sometimes a bit disoncerting if you are not. When we come to this restuarant after our appetizer we have any of the pasta plate specials followed by the lamb chops in rosemary. Chocolate mousse cake is the perfect end for a great dinner.

Burger KingBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Burger King Restuarant"

Need I say more?? But I want to mention the accessibility of a fast-food restaurant in this shopping area. It is also nice to know that there is a popular fast-food near by. Ideal if you are visiting with children which in most of the cases will enjoy coming to the well known old-faithful Burger King.
