Raleigh

A June 2005 trip to Raleigh by NoPlaceLikeHome

Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina. I went on this trip for a training class. It took two hours to drive from Pilot Mountain to Raleigh. Raleigh is laid out very nicely, with the suburbs surrounding the city and business districts in the center.

I loved the location of this hotel. It was off the main drag but still convenient. Any of the hotels on this street would be a nice choice. As you drive up the street, it is all wooded, and hotels are on the left side on the street. It was a very quiet area. The hotel was nicely appointed. The contenental breakfast was very nice, with a very nice and large dining area. You could sit at a table or on the couch in front of the TV. Breakfast had pancakes, waffles, yogurt, pastries, muffins, juices, cereals, and fruit. The room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. I had a king-size bed, an easy chair, and a desk. The TV was in a wall unit with a microwave, little fridge (no freezer), coffee maker, mirror, drawers, and armoire. The room was very nicely decorated. The bed was a little hard and the sheets were kind of stiff. The bathroom was nice, with a 3-way mirror so you could really get a good look at your appearance! The pool was next to the parking lot, but fenced in, you needed your room key to get back in the hotel from the pool. The exercise room was off-site, so I did not go. To leave the hotel for your daily adventure, there was a light at the end of the street to make it easy for a left hand turn. The heavy traffic was headed into the downtown area in the morning from the outskirts and exiting the beltway.

We stayed here in June, 2006. This is a beautiful hotel. The room was very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The beds were extremely comfortable and soft, we slept great. The pool area was very nice. We got the stay for breakfast option, and it was well worth--anything you could possibly want to have for breakfast was there!

After our stay was complete, we realized we did not get the room we reserved and paid for. We were supposed to get a room with 2 queen beds and a sofa. We instead got a room with 2 queen beds and no sofa. The hotel confirmed that a mistake was made and promised to review with the manager to determine compensation. Over 2 months later, we still have not received any offer to rectify the situation, so I am down grading my recommendation from "Very Highly Recommended" to just "Recommended".

Restaurant

We went here for lunch. All the lunch items were very reasonably priced. It was a pub-type atmosphere with wooden floors, antique decorations, and TVs above every table. I had the pork with garlic mashed potaotes; it was very good but spicy. The booth was a little uncomfortable, and the seat didn't extend out far enough for the back of my knees, but it was not bad.
