Home of Italian Tortellini

Alla Borsa - the purse - is a family-run restaurant specializing in homemade tortellini. Located in Valeggio, the very home of Italian tortellini, the fresh tortellini and panna cotta make a meal that's worth flying for. And it's relatively inexpensive!

The best things to do in Valeggio and the Lake Garda region include eating fresh tortellini, engaging in a conversation with a local over espresso through hand gestures, watching the fashionistas tramp around the streets while you eat a gelato, and wind surfing on Lake Garda - some of the best in the world.

Quick Tips:

There's a tortellini festival in June, and there are tours of the area available. Here are some English-language sites that talk about the restaurant:

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is by car. Once you arrive in Peschiara, along Lake Garda, you'll need a car to really travel around the lake region and to get to the restaurant.

This was a RELIGIOUS food EXPERIENCE!!! An army of 12 old women make every little purse by hand from 8am until 5pm every day to keep the restaurant in tortellini, and even then they might run out! This restaurant has been named as serving the best tortellini in the world by the Food Network. It deserves it.

I had fresh asparagus, then traditional meat, and finally spinach and ricotta. The noodles are so, SO thin, and the filling is to die for. Get whatever they have in season - you won't regret it. Everything is cooked to just the right tenderness and accented with a light sauce.

Add delicate pannecotta with fruits of the forrest (pannecotta is a cooked custard cream that blows crème brulee out the window), a glass of lemoncello (specialty lemon liquer), and a bit of wine and I was in heaven! HEAVEN!

I can never eat tortellini again unless it is from Alla Borsa.
