Berlin is the
Hauptstadt (capital city) of Germany. Berlin also has a rich history, although tragic in certain senses, from the rise of The Third Reich, to a city totally destroyed by the war, to the construction of the Berlin Wall (a divided city) during the cold war, and to the fall of the Wall and the unification of Germany.
Now, Berlin is busy with construction/modernization activities (second busiest construction boom in the world after Shanghai, China).
Berlin is a vigorous city with 6 million inhabitants. Interesting things are always happening, from cultural events, to concerts, to galleries, to the annual Love Parade (now ceased), to Einstein Year, and to political marches. It is a city on the move.
Quick Tips:
The Berlin Dome is a one of the most recognized landmarks. Also, the Reichstag (seat of the government) is very visited, with a long line of tourists waiting. The TV tower provides another clear landmark.
Best Way To Get Around:
Berlin has a sprawling metro system (U-Bahn and S-Bahn). You can go nearly everywhere. Additionally, there are trams and buses. It is quite convenient to use public transportation in Berlin.
