Mayan Adventure

A January 2005 trip to Antigua by Dr.Nettie

The people and beauty of Antigua was the highlight of a week-long excursion to Guatemala. We traveled to Chichicastenago, Lago de Atitlan, Tikal, Flores, and Rio Dulce using Antigua as our home base. Everywhere we traveled we met wonderful, friendly people and were treated to incredible scenic beauty.

Best Things Nearby:
The restaurants, shopping, and ancient ruins were the best. Some of the best food in Guatemala is available in Antigua. It was fun to discover restaurants tucked away in little courtyards, many of which offered views of the ruins and surrounding mountains, as well as wonderful food.

Best Things About the Resort:
The unit was well stocked with utensils, so we were able to eat in when we wanted to. Also, the unit was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed having a fireplace in our bedroom, as the nights could get chilly.

Resort Experience:
The resort is very well maintained. The pools are clean, as are the "spa" facilities. The only drawback to the pools was that they didn't seem to be heated, so we only went in once or twice. There is so much to do in Antigua and the surrounding area that we didn't miss not being able to use the pool. Antigua is the perfect jumping-off place for many side trips, including the highlands and coastal areas. We really enjoyed our excursions to Lago de Atitlan, Chichicastenango, Rio Dulce, Flores, and Tikal.
