Our trip covered Venice, Rome, Florence, and a further 4 days in Tuscany's countryside. We found Casa Portagioia via IgoUgo (thank you), and we were not disappointed.
The hospitality and much kindness extended to us during our stay at Casa Portagioia was more than anyone could expect. The rooms are very well appointed and absolutely spotlessly clean, along with a welcoming drink and other goodies. We had a wonderful time, and their thoughtfulness and useful recommendations greatly enhanced our stay (as did Marcello's artistry with Sue's hairstyling).
The owners have done a splendid job on restoring this beautiful property, and anyone who stays with you will be comfortable, relaxed, and well taken care of. The grounds are beautifully kept and full of colour. I think they have planted sunflowers, which will make their cypress drive just perfect.
Breakfasts were so wonderful and relaxed that we often left late and had to make up our time on the roads. However, we managed to see Montepulciano, Pienza, and Montalcino in 1 day (where our hosts arranged a winery tour). Another day, we split our time between Assisi and Cortona, and the third day was a trip to Siena and Sam Gimignano. The last day, we spoiled ourselves relaxing around their pool. The views from here, incidentally, are stunning.
