Take a Trip to Tallahassee

A November 2000 trip to Tallahassee by Columbus

The very well knowb capital of Florida was in every day news after the past presidential elections. To see all the activities with the press, radio and TV was in itself more than a reason to be in town.

When I arrived in the city, I was not surprised by how difficult it was trying to find a vacant room. It was worth the search, however, because it gave me a chance to tour the city and its many canopy roads: Meridian, Old Bainbridge, Centerville, Micossukee. The Florida State Capitol offers daily guided tours; at Brevard and Adams street you'll find the Governor's Mansion; Florida State and Florida A&M Universities have beautiful buildings on their campuses, all which I enjoyed visiting.

Quick Tips:

The Old Capitol, the Museum of Florida History and the Black Archives Research Center and Museum at the Florida A&M University campus took some of my free time, but I was glad I visited them. On the outskirts of the city, the Edward Ball Wakulla Sprins State Park and the Maclay State Gardens are nice to viit during the spring.

Best Way To Get Around:

Self-guiding tours available at the Visitors Bureau for the historic area within walking distance of downtown. Driving thru the city and surroundings is imperative. Bicycles are available but sometimes hard to handle in this hilly city.
