Almost Montreal...

Overview

Quote:
If you enjoy shopping, there are many malls in Longueuil, as well as flea markets for the bargain-minded. You're also close enough to Montreal for a shopping trip to Plaza St. Hubert.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Within Longueuil, there is public transportation, but I found it easiest to drive. For those wishing to go into Montreal, the bus will take you to the Metro (subway system), which is one of the best ways to get around in Montreal.

St. Hubert

Restaurant

Quote:
St. Hubert specializes in chicken....barbecued chicken, mostly, but you can also get chicken fingers or soup.

The chicken is moist and tender, but the best part of a visit to St. Hubert is the sauce! It's not quite barbecue sauce, and not quite gravy, but it's delicious! I like to dip my french fries in it.

Some St. Hubert restaurants offer table service, others are more a fast-food setting, where you place and pick up your order at a counter, and carry it to your table. In all, great-tasting food, at a bargain! (We paid about $6.00 for a complete meal, including fries, cole slaw, chicken, and a drink.)

Dollarama

A friend of mine who lives in Oakville, Ontario, was ecstatic when a "real dollar store" opened near her. You see, the dollar stores in Oakville don't carry much that costs a dollar, let alone 2 or 3 for a dollar. Five bucks, maybe, but a dollar? Puh-lease! Dollarama, on the other hand, is a "real dollar store", where nothing costs more than a dollar. At Dollarama, you can buy wallpaper borders for a dollar. Each roll is 3 yards, and some of the patterns are really nice. Last summer, I picked up a sea-shell patterned border that brightened up my upstairs bathroom, and actually went with most of my towels. Now, mind you, there are your typical "cheesy" dollar-...Read More

Place Longueuil

Attraction

Quote:
Place Longueuil is your typical suburban mall, with "Plus de 140" stores (that's more than 140 stores for you non-francophones). We hit the mall in the post-Christmas sale season, once called Boxing Day and now stretched out into Boxing Week, and most stores had signs advertising discounts of 50% off or more. We took advantage of the sales, buying scented gel candles at half price, and a briefcase and purse for about 25% off. A visit to the SAQ (the liquor store) netted us a bottle of Belgian beer called "Delirium Tremens" (9% alcohol) and two bottles of Wild Vines wine. In addition to specialty shops for electronics, and clothing, and a food court with ...Read More

Beaubien Bagels

Best Of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Quote:
Ok, I'm cheating...Beaubien Bagels isn't in Longueuil, it's in Montreal. But, they make the best bagels in Montreal, and it's a quick drive across the Jacques Cartier Bridge to get to them from Longueuil. Located on Beaubien, near St. Hubert, Beaubien Bagels makes their bagels by hand. Before being baked in an open, wood-burning oven, the bagels are first boiled. The prices are reasonable...we got two dozen bagels for around $11.00, and their variety is incredible! In addition to the usual poppy or sesame seed, you can get blueberry, chocolate chip, onion, all-dressed (or "everything"), cinnamon-raisin, and more. If you like bagels, you'll love a ...Read More
