Charleston was one of our stops on our Christmas 2003 trip. We really hadn't planned very well in advance, yet we happened upon the best B&B we have ever stayed in.

The B&B was by far the best we have ever experienced. The rooms (we stayed in 3 different rooms) were all modern yet gave me the feel of an "old" home. Although we never made it up for breakfast, we did have afternoon tea everyday which consisted of a homemade cake and homemade cheese spread of some kind and crackers. The food was awesome and was, of course, served with tea, wine or sherry. The staff was very professional, friendly helpful and all around accommodating. The inn and the staff really made our trip to Charleston memorable!

Quick Tips:

Unfortunately, I didn't plan very well in advance for this trip, so I do not have any suggestions here.

Best Way To Get Around:

We drove to Charleston, which made for a very easy trip. Parking in the city was good. There was lots of free parking, meters and pay lots. We had no problem getting from place to place and always found parking.

The Governor's House Inn

We did not do any planning in advance for this trip and totally lucked out when we happened upon the Governor's House Inn. We were exhausted and stopped at the first inn we saw. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate us. The only catch was that we had to hop from room to room over our 5-day stay based on availability, which actually worked out great since we got to see three of their AWESOME rooms.

We started off in the Christopher Suite, which used to be the kitchen house. The suite was huge and absolutely gorgeous. There were some renovations going on around the room, so they cut us a deal for $275. We stayed in that room for the first night. From there, we were moved (it was so seamless - we just came back from a wonderful day and our belongings were in another place) to the Orange Grove room, which was my favorite. It has a very high, comfy four-poster bed and the most amazing bathroom. Again, the innkeepers were so kind, and we got this room for $225 since they were moving us around. We stayed in that room for a couple of days, and then on day 4, we got back from our daily outing to find our things in the Barbados Room. Again, because we had to be moved, we were given this room for $225.

Not only were the rooms amazing, but the grounds were gorgeous. The food (breakfast and afternoon tea) was to die for and there was easy parking on site. The service at the inn was above and beyond. Ever since this trip, I have compared every B&B to this one, and none even come close!
