This was our Christmas road trip from Palm Coast, FL, where we gather with our family for the holidays to see some of our favorite "must-sees" in Savannah and onto a new adventure on Daufuskie Island.

Savannah Beach Inn, Tybee Island, GA
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this inn. We were given (and paid for) what we were told was a suite, but as it turns out, part of what they considered our "suite" was common area. It was supposed to have a king-size bed but only had a queen, and it did not say that the room did not have a shower. When I told the innkeeper that she should have mentioned that, she said that I could just roll back the rug in the middle of the bathroom and use the attachment on the claw foot tub. Unacceptable!

We agreed to change rooms and were told that by the time we returned from breakfast, our bags would be in our new room. When we got back, our bags were still in our old room, and we were told we could take them up the three flights of stairs to our new room whenever we were ready. Needless to say, customer service was not a strength. I decided at that point we were checking out. Not only did I not get the room type originally promised or get moved to a new room, but I was charged one night as a cancellation fee. Overall unsatisfactory experience.

Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and SpaBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa"

I labeled this a "high-end", but if you book on hotwire.com, they have great prices for this resort ($129 as opposed to $249 if you book through Westin). I have stayed here numerous times and thoroughly enjoyed my stay every time. The only issue (which I find to be charming) with this resort is that it is a ferry ride across the river from downtown Savannah. The resort has golf, a spa, four restaurants, a coffee bar, gym, and pool--everything you could ever want and more! http://www.westinsavannah.com/

The Olde Pink HouseBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Absolutely delicious every time! The restaurant has a lot of character, and the food is amazing. There is a piano bar in the basement, so you can enjoy a drink before or after dinner while you find out about the local ghost from the servers. The artichoke fritters are creative and yummy and make a wonderful starter. The pan-fried lobster served over cheesy grits is out-of-this-world! Finish off with the pecan basket filled with homemade vanilla bean ice cream and topped with a light mango sauce. The restaurant also has a nice variety on its wine list.

Lady and SonsBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Lady & Sons"

Lady & Sons is Paula Deen's (from Food TV) restaurant. There is a buffet for lunch or dinner with Southern classics: fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, Southern fried steak, and creamed corn. All is delish for a bargain price. Dessert is included in the buffet, or you can select individual items from the menu. You will wait in line to get in, but it is worth the wait!

Restaurant | "Belford's"

The crab cakes were judged Best Menu Item at the 2001 "Taste of Savannah" as judged by Southern Living magazine, and I have to say I agree 110%. The crab cakes are by far the best I have ever had anywhere! Far more crab than filler, just enough spices and bread crumbs to give them a phenomenal flavor and to hold them together. The red rice on the side is always done to perfection, and the she-crab soup is absolutely delish!

The concierge at the Wyndham Savannah Harbor said that we should have a drink before the tour to really enjoy it. We should have taken that to heart and had an entire bottle, as it seemed we were the only sober two on our tour.

It was actually a lot of fun being the only two sober people in a hearse riding around Savannah. Part of the tour is that the driver wants you to scare people at stoplights by screaming, "BOO!" It was beyond hysterical watching all the drunkards trying to accomplish this at every stoplight. Needless to say, this was a very unusual tour, but thoroughly enjoyable. Oh, you do go to the graveyard to look for ghosts.
