Various Vegas Trips

An August 2004 trip to Las Vegas by ryenquinn

Luxor Las Vegas

Hotel | "Luxor"

This is one of my favorite hotels in the world. As the name indicates, this hotel has an Egyptian theme and carries it pretty well through the resort. The main hotel building is shaped like a pyramid and contains the largest atrium in the world along with the most powerful beam of light emitted from the peak. The interior contains an attractions level with arcades and showrooms. There is a large casino level and a lower level where the buffet is located. A few years back, they expanded the resort by adding two new towers to the north side of the pyramid. I stayed in a room in the tower and was very impressed. The room was large and well-appointed. The elevators were speedy, and the staff was p...Read More

Hotel San Remo

Hotel | "San Remo"

I stayed here on my first trip to Vegas about ten years ago. Fortunately, my review has nothing to do with THAT hotel. Recently, I heard that Hooters (yes-the place with hot girls in orange short-shorts) was going to purchase the hotel and turn it into the first Hooters Hotel. They will be expanding the resort and adding some facilities. If you intend to stay here, please check to see if they have started the reconstruction or not. Otherwise, it was a nice place in a great location for less money. Good luck.

New York New York Hotel & Casino

NY-NY is a budding LV landmark. It is impossible to miss the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline. Inside, the casino is built to look like parts of NYC. There is a casino in "Central Park", and the food is "Little Italy". This concept is enhanced by a number of NY institutions like Gallagher's Steakhouse and famous Nathan's Hot Dogs. There is also an ESPN Zone bar/restaurant attached to the resort. The rooms are clean and well-appointed. This is the only place my wife likes to gamble because they have the Family Feud slot machines and Haagen Dazs ice cream. The resort is nice, but the people could have been nicer. That was just my experience. Overall, it's a nice place with great amenities i...Read More

This OFF-THE-STRIP hotel was quite a surprise. The rooms in the tower are large and well-appointed. The rooms that face the Strip have a nice view at night. If you have the choice of taking the Garden room or the Tower, take the Tower. I have heard some bad things about the Garden rooms. Overall, I was impressed by the size of the casino and the selection of games. There is enough of a selection to keep you here for your whole stay. It is the same with the dining options. There are a number of good deals on food, and their buffet was quite nice. If you want to get to the Strip, there was a shuttle that would run back and forth all day. This hotel is a bargain because of its location off the St...Read More

MGM Grand

The MGM GRAND is gigantic! If you hate walking or have limited mobility, I might consider a different resort. It feels like you have to walk a mile from the strip back to the elevators and then down the hall to your room. In some cases, this "grandness" is a good thing. This resort has so many dining options that even the pickiest eater will find something. From Nathan's hot dogs to Emeril's, the MGM Grand has something for everyone. The pool area is large and clean, with a number of places to swim or simply lie out. The casino has just about everything you could want, which is appropriate since the casino floor is the same size as the playing field at Yankee Stadium! The rooms in th...Read More
