When visiting Newport Beach, the best place to stay is Fashion Island. Fashion Island is an outdoor mall with many restaurants and movie theaters. A visit to Corona Del Mar is great for a beach picnic outing or great dining experience. A quick trip to Laguna Beach or Balboa Island. Balboa Island is minutes away from fashion island and you can enjoy shops, galleries, fun foods like frozen bananas, and take your car over on a ferry to Balboa Peninsula for a ride on a ferris wheel or a listen to a live band on the weekend at one of the local spots on the water.Quick Tips: If you really enjoy shopping, you should go to South Coast Plaza which has every shop known to man from Sears to Nordstroms a...Read More

Oysters

The cuisine is Asian fusion seafood and it is great! A very unique blend of flavors. Oysters has pasta and beef as well, but is mostly seafood. Desserts are all homemade with an amazing creme brulee. The menu varies, but the food is consistent always. They have local jazz bands playing often saxaphone or piano. Great local hangout and it is always packed any night of the week. It is a price committment, but if you want a great dining experience, try it! I had a former roommate who was a concierge in Newport Beach. I tried every Newport Beach restaurant and if you don't care about a "no water view", then you must go to Oysters.

If you want seafood with a view, then Billy's is your place. Billy's is focused on a Hawaiian themed atmosphere with a "deadly" mai tai. The seafood is always fresh and prepared in a unique way. Salad comes with the dinner, so it is a better value than most of the Newport water view restaurants. If you are looking for something less pricey and on the water, try Lido Island restaurants at the marina. There are small restaurants with a nice atmosphere and pretty good food.

Balboa Fun Zone

The Balboa Fun Zone has fun for all ages. During the day, there is the ferris wheel, ice cream treats, Britta's cafe for lunch, arcade games, and visits to the beach. During the night, adults can enjoy Studio Cafe for live music, and other restaurants for dining and enjoying the harbor view. If you have more than a day, go to Catalina Island. The ferry leaves from the fun zone. In the summer, parking is scarce, so park on Balboa Island and take the ferry to the Balboa Fun Zone.

Balboa Island is a unique living space where people do live, but play as well. You can enjoy shopping, eating, and visiting local galleries. It is fun to visit in the summer or winter. Winter is great to walk around the island and see all the Christmas decorations (on the boats too!). If you are visiting before Christmas, then the boat parade is a must. If it is any other time, you will enjoy a walk around the island or on Main street.
