Encinitas--The last of California's true beach com

A May 2005 trip to Encinitas by (h)earstories

At its core, Encinitas still retains its relaxed '70s atmosphere. However, this is wrapped in a core of sophistication and modernity that makes it a great destination when authenticity and style are de rigeur.

Restaurant

Friendly, fast, and traditional are words to describe this ultracasual indoor/outdoor Mexican restaurant. The camarones (shrimp) dishes come highly recommended by my husband and mother. Both swear it is one of the best Mexican they have had in "ages." As a vegetarian, I had the cheese enchiladas, and they were quite ordinary--neither any worse nor any better than most. It was the service, chips and salsa, and ambience--friendly and casual, minus any of the cliched Mex trappings--that will make the non-meat-eater return.
