A lot has been written about sites in Boston by other members, so I will write about off-the-beaten-path sites that I haven't see much written about.

Locals come into this restaurant which is a good sign. The restauant has some very good surf and also some turf dishes which are relatively inexpensively. My father likes the lobster, as you can see!

Story/Tip

Plimoth Plantation
The Plimoth Plantation is a living history museum, similar to Colonial Williamsburg. You are given a chance to see what life is like in 17th century Plymouth Massachusetts. Various people wear traditional clothing and perform their tasks utilizing 17th-century tools. You may interact with the people and ask them questions. It makes for a nice off-the-beaten-path activity to teach the children some history. And yes, that is how they spelled the name of the city in the seventeenth century! For information, see the website at http://www.plimoth.org/.
Salem
The first settlers arrived in Salem, Massachusetts, around 1626. Salem is known for the witchcraft trials of 1692. There are many tourist spots in the area dedicated to this event. Go to one of the witch museums, but not two of them, because you'll hear the same story. The shops are pretty fun to browse through and purchase things from. Salem also has a rich seafaring history, historic architecture, and whale-watching excursions, and it is the setting of “The House of the Seven Gables.”
