I was very happy to discover a price fighter aircompany is flying on Shannon in Ireland, so about 4 years ago, we went for the first time and were hooked immediately. This spring, we went back, and it even got worse. Now I want to go at least once a year.

Driving trough the Burren with the sky breaking open and the low light on the empty landscape

Getting lost in the maze of loose stone walls on Inisheer, the smallest of the Arran islands

Watching the sunset on the coast in Doolin and finding yourself in a nice warm pub with a beer and a tasty meal

Feeling the bear hug of our B&B host

Cliffs of Moher

All walks in the Burren and up the coast in Doolin

Quick Tips:

Driving past Galway and taking a tour of Connemara

Best Way To Get Around:

To get around, hire a car or a bike; if you stay in Doolin and the Arran Islands, you can take the bus from Shannon Airport.

Nice, cosy, homely, special... still the best B&B ever. This is a nice place just behind O'Connors Pub. Rooms are not very big but are tasteful and clean (most are en-suite), the host, Danny, is great in all senses. Ask him for walking and touring tips.

The Burren

Experience

ire
A magical landscape of limestone rocks, fascinating shapes and crevasses, barren and unhospitable at first sight, it gets to you after awhile. In the small paths of earth, you find a lot of special plants and flowers, like orchids and other calcium-loving varieties. These are historical artifacts, since stoneage can be found on all places. If you like maps and exploring, buy the special "Burren Map" and you won't have to miss any of the rock graves and ring forts. It might take a while to see them all.
