An April 2005 trip to Wales by dtalsma

The Lleyn Peninsula in Northern Wales offers walking opportunities that are steps back in time (at the same time, you step forward into amazing scenery).

Imagine a Big Sur-esque coastline overlain with the United Kingdom's network of public footpaths and walking trails, friendly pubs, and sheep, sheep, sheep - that's northern Wales' Lleyn Peninsula. Ancient forts, enchanted forests, and retracing pilgrim's steps along a route of medieval churches await visitors to this little-known but entrancing area.

Quick Tips:

We arranged our walk with Peter Hewlett of Edge of Wales Walk, and couldn't have been happier that we did.

Best Way To Get Around:

We rented a car to get to the Lleyn peninsula, but the Edge of Wales staff offers transportation to and from your lodging and walking locations.

The Edge of Wales Walk staff arranged for our accommodations, and we were extremely satisfied with their selections. Our hosts/hostesses were cordial and helpful. They were well located for the walker/explorer.

Story/Tip

The Edge of Wales staff will provide you with maps and a GPS and get you started. With these tools, and good shoes, the Lleyn Peninsula is there for your pleasure! Go up the big hills to ancient forts; down the bluffs to the beach; over the stiles and through the sheep farms; and along the country lanes to the inviting pubs found in (almost) every town and village.
