Down By the Bay

A September 2004 trip to Bay St. Louis by Amber Autumn

A bay doesn't sound as interesting, but what about a seaside town with antebellum houses, one casino, a waterpark, and unlimited shopping? Bay St. Louis offers a getaway in a charming setting with lots of intriguing shops. There's also a ledge surrounding the bay where you can sit and watch the sunset.

Overview

In Bay St. Louis, you can stroll its quaint, charming streets for the nautical souvenir shops. The Grand Casino Bay St. Louis is not far. There's a step near the edge of the bay where you can watch the waves roll in and beaches down a long boulevard leading into Waveland. The antebellum houses are sights to see for sightseers.

Quick Tips:

There's a campground in Waveland down the street from Bay St. Louis that offers a wave pool and the closest accommodations, besides one bed-and-breakfast, to the bay. I suggest you get a spot near the front to get a great view of the bay and hear the rolling waves.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is in your own car. I'm not sure if there are buses or taxis, because we were near Waveland, which is along a long boulevard.

The brilliant hues of golds, pinks, and oranges intertwine and create a romantic setting to watch the sunset with that special person. The sandy white beaches and the sound of the rolling waves create a serene setting for any getaway from big-city stresses.
