Week of Rest and Relaxation

An April 2005 trip to Lincoln by cooldad7665

April vacation week in the mountains

If you want to rest, April is a good time to come because it is the beginning of their "mud season", when the skiing is over and many places are closed for the season until May. We drove to North Conway to do some outlet shopping. That was great--the stores had many clearance sales and very few shoppers. On the way back, we saw two moose on the side of the road, eating--very cool. Every place we went, there was no waiting, and we were served right away.

Quick Tips:

Most sightseeing things do not open until mid- to end of May.

Best Way To Get Around:

By car. Bring your bikes, because most places have bike trails. Walking is great too on the trails.
Best Things Nearby:
If you like to ski, this area is for you. Shopping at nearby North Conway, NH.

Best Things About the Resort:
Skiing, snowboarding, and tubbing. The indoor pool, the outdoor hot tub, the spa on-site

Resort Experience:
The accommodation was very disappointing. We expected a lot, since this place called itself luxurious, with a spa on-site. Our room was actually two, one room with two day beds and a murphy bed, a dining table with four chairs, full kitchen and bathroom, and connected to that was another room with a bedroom and another bathroom. The refrigerator door was loose, one of the hair dryers was broken, there was a hole in the armchair, the window shade was broken, and the blankets were worn and gross. Dinner entrees cost $24 and up. The spa, indoor pool, and hot tub were all good.

Warning - When you leave, the resort charges $38 for maid service to clean up after you leave because you are RCI. You do not get any maid service when you are there. No one ever came to take out the trash, and they had no trash receptacles like most timeshares for you to take out the trash. Also, when we left, they were going to start charging $1 each for each pool towel. How tacky. Never coming back to this old, worn-down ski resort.

The Mountain Club on Loon

We initially stopped by the restaurant for some quick take-out, then ended up returning three times for lunch or dinner. The food was very good. My son loved the orange chicken. We tried many dishes: fried rice, Singapore noodles, chow foon, and mixed vegetables, and everything was delicious. The waitress is the owner's wife, and she was very courteous and enjoyed greeting us every time we came back--she made us feel at home. Conveniently located in a shopping plaza with a bank, market, and the local movie cinema.
