Quote: I have gone to school in Des Moines for 4 years. There are so many places that I wish I would have known about back then.

This is a nice little microbrewery. My favorite is the java brew with coffee. The food is a little pricey but very good. There is live music on the weekends. They have large dining areas and many pool tables upstairs.

I had lived in London for a few months, and this pub is pretty close to London pubs. Food-wise, it’s great, with curry, fish-and-chips, and Shepard’s pie. The food is pricey but good. Bar-wise, they have two. The main floor is all British beer signs and has a pub-like feel. The upstairs is split into a bar and dining area. It is much more cozy up there, but with a limited bar selection. There is loud music on the weekends. They have many beers on tap and in bottles, including some hard to find ones, such as Speckled Hen. They also have spirits. The people there are a mixed bag. It is located downtown, so there will be people coming out of clubs, theatres, or dinner. Expect different things e...Read More

This may be a gay bar, but I seriously come here for the music. They have great techno in the main dance area and a video bar with a lot of remixes. There are three bars and four bar areas. It is a large place for Iowa. There is a pool table in the video bar. Wednesday is $8 for all-you-can-drink, and there are shower dancers on Saturday and drag shows all week. It is closed Monday and Tuesday, and they have strippers on Friday. It is a very typical gay bar, nothing special.

This is an up-and-coming martini bar with a two-for-one happy hour. It is a quiet place with couches, art, and booths. Monday is the ever-popular i-Pod night where you can DJ off your i-Pod for 15 minutes. There is a good selection of martinis and a friendly staff.

This bar is new to the scene. I went the weekend after opening. It gets busy quick. The carpet is shag, folding tables are used, bowling photos are on the wall, and old Miller signs and lights are everywhere. Some of the people get into it a little, and I have seen afro wigs, bell bottoms, and neon-colored shirts. They also have food, but it's usually - so busy, it's hard to find the bar. It's a good place to start the night off. They even have a parking lot!
