Between Easter weekend 2004 to April 9, 2005, I spent two weeks in Stockholm. With the Stockholm Card, a 7-11 coupon, and directions to a kebab shop, Stockholm is fascinating and inexpensive. Well, except the drink at the ICE BAR, but it is a must!

Quick Tips:

Kebab House north of the central station.

Best Way To Get Around:

Get the Stockholm Card and get busy. With more than 60 museums included, make the card pay you back the first day!

Af Chapman & Skeppsholmen

Good, pleasant environment. We stayed on the ship. It was very clean and furnished nicely. The only problem was that the wood floor is noisy. But still, highly recommended.

Ice Bar is close to the Central Station but hidden off the main street in the Nordic Sea Hotel.

Absolut Icebar Stockholm

This is chillin' to the extreme. Cool surroundings and warm (as in friendly) atmosphere. A must for every tourist visiting Stockholm. Family-friendly, with children-sized coats. Part of the fun of the freeze is assisting the other amazed (or frozen) guests take photos. Remember, this is real ice, and it's around -4 C, and coats and some shoes are supplied. It's a great way to end a day or start a night out. The Ice Bar opens at 4pm and closes around 10pm.

KortRex Card Shop

I am obessed with writing postcards. Not only on my frequent journeys but almost daily, I sent cards from Heidelberg. It is a great way to keep in touch and be creative. I usually reserve the tourist cards for grandparents and others not fond of my humor. It is a long story...

Anyway, I try to use free postcards from numerous restaurants and shops in most cities. For some reason, Stockholm continues to lead the world in the WORST FREE POSTCARDS! So go to KortRex in Stinsen (phone 08 92 6565) or Ringen (phone 08 640 1750).

As of May 2005, all overseas postcards cost the same postage. Can you imagine the surprise when I pulled out small poster-sized postcards purchased at KortRex at the Postal Museum in Galma Stan?

If you can, go to the Postal Museum stamp shop for the beautiful Swedish stamps. The staff is helpful and even stamped 80 postcards for me!
