A seven minute tram ride to the top of a mountain in Jasper National Park, plus a hike a little higher up the mountain.

There is no 'best' thing to do on this trip. The whole thing is a wonderful experience in itself. Probably the worst part is waiting in line to get on the tram. The view is breath-taking (literally, because that high up there is less oxygen.) On a clear day you can see all the way to Mount Robson in BC. At the top there is a souvenir shop, and a cafe - but it's fairly expensive, so if you're on a tight budget, feel free to pack a lunch. There are marmots (a type of gopher) all over the place at the top, and lots of historical facts on plaques about the tram, and the local flora & fauna. A great place to spend a half-day or more.

Quick Tips:

There will be a crush of tourists in July & August, so try to plan your trip for the mid part of June. Also, always remember to bring warm clothes when you're in the mountains. I can never stress that enough, as it can get VERY cold even in the summer months. If you plan to take the hike out to the other peak, make sure you take some water, and stop often to rest, as the altitude can cause tiredness in even the most fit hiker.

Best Way To Get Around:

You can drive or bike up to the parking lot. There is also a hiking trail to the top, where the tram stops. It takes a few hours (never tried it myself) and you get a free ride down. From the top, you can walk everywhere, including a hike to another peak, which is visible from the tram stop.
