A Week In San Diego with The Kids

An April 2005 trip to San Diego by Siouxze

Quote: We stayed at the Westin Horton Plaza and went to Sea World three times and the San Diego Zoo once. Sea World was incredible, but the zoo wasn't all that great! All in all, we fell in love with San Diego!

The Westin Horton Plaza is a beautiful hotel. As all Westins do, they have the Heavenly bed with down comforters and pillows and the Heavenly shower with dual showerheads. We had a basic room with two full beds, a flat-screen TV, desk, and seating area. It would have been nice if the room had had a dresser, but we made due, also the rooms do not have decks or patios. The concierge and doorman service was wonderful, but housekeeping was lacking a bit. Just some minor things, but I expect more from the Westin. The pool & gym were basic. The Wesitn is usually pretty "kid friendly" and have the "Westin Kids Club",however this hotel did not have the cartoon channels, and a week without cartoons was ...Read More

I wish we could have afforded to do the trainer for a day or a dolphin encounter, but we had a great time nonetheless. After the Shamu and dolphin shows, you can sign up to have your photo taken with them. Sign up early so you get yours done firs...Read More

San Diego Zoo and Safari Park

Attraction | "San Diego Zoo"

I really don't understand why this zoo is such a big deal? I didn't think it was all that great at all. For one thing, all the exhibits are too far apart and there are a lot of hills to walk up. If you have a stroller or wheelchair, you have to walk even farther, as you can't use the escalators or stairs. Many of the exhibits were at the end of a long dead end, so you have to do a lot of back tracking. The exhibits themselves were very nice, but nothing spectacular. We have pretty much the same animals here at the Woodland Park Zoo, and ours is a lot easier to navigate. I wish we had either gone to SeaWorld again or to the Wild Animal Park instead. It was basically a waste of a day. I don't recomm...Read More
