Obviously, the best things to do in Key West are to drink nonstop and watch the people. Everyone always fantasizes about living here (I once tried), but if you notice the locals, many of them seem to ride bikes loaded with debris, and talk to themselves.

Quick Tips:

You must be open minded to the lifestyles of all people to enjoy this place.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk. Many rent those obnoxious little scooters and pretend to be obnoxious Italians on the things.

For those in the know, you are chuckling about my choice of where to stay. This place is cheap and a bit dumpy, but there are many benefits to staying here. It is right on the Atlantic, and the outdoor activity here will be described in another entry. The decor is totally art deco, though a bit shopworn. There is a liquor store onsite, which is very convenient. I like staying in this part of Key West (the south) because it is convenient to everything but away enough to be quiet and relaxing. The heavy duty tourist areas (Duval, etc.) are a ten minute walk away from here. The heavily-photographed "Southernmost Point" is a couple of blocks over.

OK, I've been to Key West numerous times, and I am a little jaded with this spot. It is fun, though, and the sunset is awe-inspiring. OK, the big hustle of the tourists is ongoing, with the usual overpriced souvenirs, etc. But if you go to Key West, you must experience this.

OK, another tourist experience! But you must do this, you must pull up a chair and order as few cold ones. Try doing it at 9:30 AM to really play the role. Jimmy Buffett used to come in here and dring cheap Pearl beer. But Papa Hemingway didn't. He went to the original Sloppy Joe's, which is now Capt. Tony's a block away. Go here. Buy the t-shirt. You'll be glad.

You are not a true Parrothead until you have made the pilgrimage to the Margaritaville Store in Key West. While pricey, they have some unique t-shirts you will not see anywhere else, including at the shows. And the merchandise for kids ("parakeets") is really neat. I bought my little nephew a cute t-shirt. I really enjoyed this experience, browsing and listening to the Jimmy B Christmas album. And next door is a grill, though I didn't go in. The menu sounded very promising, including (of course) CHEESEBURGERS.

Yep, the Atlantic Shores Resort has a clothing optional pool and pier that juts out into the ocean. And the clientele covers the whole spectrum. I loved leaving the wintry cold of Atlanta (fog, wind, snow), and on the next day laying naked in the 84 degree atmosphere. The bar, where you can walk up nude, serves all kinds of booze and pretty good grub. However, the highlight was on Sunday when the attendant set up my chair on the pier, and said, "Is this spot alright?" Next to me were four naked women who are employed as strippers in a local establishment. I sort of mumbled something incoherent in response, as I was immediately transported to every male pig's dreamland. Oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!
