So many things to do and places to see that you need to give yourself at least a day per place you want to visit, unless you are just skimming the surface like we did. It is SO worth the trip. England is amazing and beautiful.

Gotta make a call?
How to sum up London in 4 days is impossible. Go, no matter how many days you may have, just to get a taste of the great city and history. We enjoyed everything, from the Tube to the food to Harrods to Stonehenge.

Quick Tips:

1) Take the Tube; it's fun.
2) Shop at Harrods, even if it is for a trinket, to say you were there; two, because the food halls are an experience in themselves; and three, on the ground floor there is a memorial to Diana and Dodi with her engagement ring on display.
3) Eat anywhere but in a pub; eat in one only once. There are so many wonderful restaurants, so don't limit yourself to pub food.
4) Have "proper English tea" at least once.
5) Go to Westminster Abbey, Stonehenge, and any other historical site you have time to see. You won't be disappointed.

Best Way To Get Around:

I can't stress it enough to try it all. We took the Tube, buses, mainline trains, black cabs... anything we could get in. The Tube is the cheapest and lots of fun. Of course, walking is the free route. You can get the best pictures walking, so take a bus or the Tube to a location and walk around for a bit, then hop back on to get back to where you started. The English mass-transit system is so easy, you can get anywhere in no time - and five different ways!

The room was beautiful, and its appointments were well done. We had a king-size bed with a faux-fur blanket, which was quite lovely and very rich. There was a full couch, desk, wardrobe, and bathroom suite. It was done in dark woods and natural tones.

From what we understand, it costs about $450 a night. (We used gift certificates for our stay.) I don't know that we would have paid that amount. In the States, we would expect and receive more, but in London, it is my understanding that this is a posh hotel. The staff was extremely accommodating, friendly, and quick to respond to any of our needs.

The SavoyBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

On Easter Sunday, we had Afternoon Tea at The Savoy. It was exceptional! I highly recommend having Afternoon Tea if you are going to be in England just to be able to enjoy "proper English Tea". The Savoy was very lush and elegant. A definate treat! The hotel itself is beautiful. The dining room and service are very upscale. If you like to play dress up and enjoy and afternoon out, go to the Savoy.

There are many places you can have Afternoon Tea. Other hotels and resteraunts serve it. I have been told that there are three kinds of tea service so that one does not get confused. 1- Cream Tea, which is tea and scones with cream (clotted cream); 2 - Afternoon Tea, which is tea with finger sandwiches, petite fours, and scones with clotted cream; and 3- High Tea, which is afternoon tea with a hot entree as well.

My English friends have advised that if you are invited to Afternoon Tea but it is close to supper time to ask for clarification, as it might end up being High Tea, and a hot meal will be included.

Restaurant | "Yo Sushi"

Yo Sushi was just plain fun!

If you have never had sushi, as I hadn't, go anyway. You can get vegetarian dishes that are so yummy, you won't care that others are eating raw fish! My friend tells me that they have a place similar to this in Chicago, but I know we don't here in Michigan.

There is a little conveyer belt that goes by with a variety of dishes you can pick up anytime you like, or you can call for service and order off the menu. Order unlimited fizzy water for £1 just to be able to continually serve yourself from the soda fountain. There is a color code on the menu to let you know how much each thing is. At the end, the waiter will count up all your colored dishes to give you the bill.

StonehengeBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Stonehenge
The ruins of the Mysterious Stone Circle on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England -- about 137k southwest of London. Why it was built - there is still much speculation.

I personally loved Stonehenge. Many people have views that seem to sway one of two ways. Either they love it, or they think it is just a bunch of rocks. In the quietness, I can see the spiritual side. I think that if you have the opportunity to go, you should. If you are a history buff or nature lover, this should be one site to add to your to-do list.

Westminster AbbeyBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Westminster Abbey
The decor and architecture are amazing. The history is stunning, and this is one site that is not to be missed. Pictures can be taken outside, but not inside the abbey itself. My husband and I bought a few postcards from the bookshop there to show the inside of the abbey in our photo albums. It is breathtaking and holy, even for the nonreligious person.

I was utterly amazed at the caskets/tombs and the details. Many of them, constructed in marble, have life size replicas of their king, queen, bishop, or duke laying on top of the tomb itself.

This site is so rich in royalty and heritage.

There are also many writers, poets, philosophers, and musicians buried here. It feels like you have stepped back in time.
