I grew up in Hong Kong but returned 2 years ago to work. This place is exciting and has everything city life can offer: people from all over the world in a mass orgy of complete debauchery. Bring lots of money and a spare liver if you can.

Local Bars and Clubs

Volar, Dragon-I, Ruums, Finds, Lost, Jewel, Club-ING, are just some of the popular places that the hip people go every week Wednesday through Saturday. Models, the local stars, the newly rich, and those who live through their parents' bank accounts, gold diggers, all nicely dressed. You see them everywhere, touting their new Prada or LV bags, new cell phones, and wads of cash. People don't stop at a few drinks, it's all or nothing here, puke is a common site... but for some reason, there are very few fights... always an enjoyable time. Be prepared to start the night late and drink til the sun comes up. Everyone does it...

South Hong Kong Island Beaches

Hong Kong is surrounded by water, so there are beaches everywhere, and almost all of the beaches have some sort of barbeque activity. There is one area called Stanley where many expats live, there are nice restaurants in a rebuilt landmark, and there are tons of cheap wholesale stores where the tourists go to buy sometimes counterfeit items. Farther south on the island, there are two beaches called Shek O and Big Wave Bay, both exposed to the South Pacific. The water there is clear, clean, and with huge waves constantly. Of course, there are always many people, but if you want to go to a remote beach, you can always rent a boat and head out to the numerous islands with fine white-sand beaches. It's a great beach place during the summer.
