People REALLY DO win those contests! Won a trip for 7 days to the Ritz Hotel, in a black limo to and from the airport (was I in the one Princess Di was in before the horrible accident?) Sponsored by DeBeers Diamonds & US News & World Report.

Attended church at Notre Dame, an organ recital with 6000 pipes free, saw the Winged Victory, Venus, French jewels, coronation robes and Mona Lisa at the Louvre. Grand marnier crepes were the best street food in the universe on the best street, Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower views at sunset, preferred the 2nd floor to top. LOVED the Musee de Orsay with Renoir, Monet,Manet, Degas, & Whistlers Mother. Saint Chapelle on the top floor with the jeweled stain glass windows is the most awesome church in the world! Must see Sacre Couer via the funiculaire, a tram for lots of local color, artists in berets, street musicians with haunting notes that cling to the air, traces of Van Gogh and Renoir's home. The Latin Quarter market is also lively! Be sure & go to Fauchons to picnic with all the picturesque pastries. The BEST VIEW of the rooftops of Paris is atop the Samaritian Dept. Store, don't miss it! See the Galeries Lafeyette stained glass dome and gourmet food section. Free fashion show at Primtemps was a highlight. Tower views at sunset, prefered the 2nd floor with rooftop views.

Quick Tips:

August is when all the Parisians go to vacation, so there are some shops which are closed, but it is also less crowded. 60-75 degrees, partly cloudy, some drizzle, bring an umbrella!

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk, walk, walk to see the very most! We did go on a bus at Cityrama Illuminations a tour of the city at night all lit up and to Eperney and Reims daytrip. The bateaux mouches cruise on Seine at sunset, sit on left side, is also a MUST!

AWESOME, discreet, champagne on arrival, iced in silver bucket, white roses perfumed the room, Shalimar cologne in full bottles with matching fragrance in shampoos and body lotions, a marble fireplace, 3 chandeliers, gold swan fixtures in bath with temperature control, towel warmers, bidet. Views of gardens with balcony. Superb service, my nightie was unpacked and placed on the bed with turn down service very creatively. They make their own chocolates!!

Three courses, rabbit, guinea hen, salad, cheeses. We were on a budget. It was a good value and although it was ok, we would not go back on our next trip.

The most rude waiters in all of France! Ordered french onion soup, a green salad, French fries and a burger with wine. It was mediocre. Should have known better, do not go to France and order a hamburger, for goodness sake, but we were there 7 days and having withdrawal, We will NEVER EVER go back in a million years!!!

Boarding house style eating arrangement. 3 courses with wine, again great house wine! Had the fondue with Bearnaise and beef Bourguignon, which was a bargain, it was across from the art school and so lots of students on a budget ate there, good value for the dollar.

Be sure and see the Chateau of Conde-en-Brie and tour with complimentary coffee in Reims, also Notre Dame the gothic cathedral where 33 kings were coronated. In Eperney do the champagne tastings and tour of Moet cellars which is world renound, marvel at the riddlers who diligently train to turn the wine at the precise moment for its exquisite taste. See the countryside in route with the villages, vineyards and eat at the sidewalk cafes the offer French casseloet, salad nicolaise and of course wine!
