Attended church at Notre Dame, an organ recital with 6000 pipes free, saw the Winged Victory, Venus, French jewels, coronation robes and Mona Lisa at the Louvre. Grand marnier crepes were the best street food in the universe on the best street, Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower views at sunset, preferred the 2nd floor to top. LOVED the Musee de Orsay with Renoir, Monet,Manet, Degas, & Whistlers Mother. Saint Chapelle on the top floor with the jeweled stain glass windows is the most awesome church in the world! Must see Sacre Couer via the funiculaire, a tram for lots of local color, artists in berets, street musicians with haunting notes that cling to the air, traces of Van Gogh and Renoir's home. The Latin Quarter market is also lively! Be sure & go to Fauchons to picnic with all the picturesque pastries. The BEST VIEW of the rooftops of Paris is atop the Samaritian Dept. Store, don't miss it! See the Galeries Lafeyette stained glass dome and gourmet food section. Free fashion show at Primtemps was a highlight.
Tower views at sunset, prefered the 2nd floor with rooftop views.
Quick Tips:
August is when all the Parisians go to vacation, so there are some shops which are closed, but it is also less crowded. 60-75 degrees, partly cloudy, some drizzle, bring an umbrella!Best Way To Get Around:
Walk, walk, walk to see the very most! We did go on a bus at Cityrama Illuminations a tour of the city at night all lit up and to Eperney and Reims daytrip. The bateaux mouches cruise on Seine at sunset, sit on left side, is also a MUST!
