Spring break isn't just for kids! Adults can enjoy a peaceful, relaxing break in beautiful, little-known Florida spots.

Golf and Island Club

This was a great value. A friend and I bid on this home in an auction, and for $1,600, we spent 12 days and 11 nights in a sumptuous, well-appointed home on a canal that fed into the bay. We had a magnificent screened pool/Jacuzzi area with plenty of room to sunbathe and a dining/barbecue area. The house had three bedrooms and three baths, so no one had to share facilities. The kitchen was unbelievable, as was the great living room with an oversize TV, VCR, DVD player, etc. The neighborhood was beautiful, with well-kept homes and beautiful vegetation. The neighbors were very friendly. If you know of an auction in your area, this is a great way to vacation!

Little Harbor Resort and Hotel

We had Easter breakfast at this charming restaurant overlooking the beach in Florida. The breakfast buffet was plentiful, and the waitstaff was courteous and friendly. Food was well-tended and replenished quickly.

Animal Watching

Near the electric company in Ruskin is a beautiful natural preserve where people can walk on wooden bridges and observe manatees, sharks, dolphins, and other sea life from above. The animals like the warmer water of this inlet in the winter and early spring as opposed to the cold of the ocean. The gift shop has many great items, not tacky tourist ones! Admission is free. The best viewing is in the morning, when weather is chilly.

Outlet Shopping

This is the best outlet mall in the US! It is open air and nicely laid out in a park-like setting. There are hundreds of stores to choose from, many bargains, and a nice food court where you can take a break from bargain hunting. The Izod shop is fantastic, as is the Clark's store.

Flea Market

Over 1,900 vendors supplying everything you can think of are the attraction here. It is under two large football field-size roofs, but not air-conditioned. Dressing rooms are available, as is a food court (not great, but when you're desparate, it's okay). Open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday year-round. Get there early for good parking and selection.

Fun in the Sun

Experience

Little Harbor Resort and Hotel has a wonderful beach, which is very quiet and relaxing. The restaurant has a tiki bar outside and bathrooms for beach people. For shoppers, Ellenton Outlet (the best in my opinion) is about 45 minutes away, reached easily by the highway. There are many bargains! Fleamasters flea market in Ft. Meyers is another great day trip. There are 1,900 vendors selling new items under two large football-size roofs that will give even the best shoppers a run for their money. Get there early for the best parking spots and wear comfortable, cool clothing!!!
