Crazy Tokyo

A March 2003 trip to Tokyo by ihagstedt

Japan is crazy. Music is blaring on every street corner, and McDonald's workers spend half an hour bowing at you when all you care about is to not let your fries get cold.

Four Seasons Chinzan-SoBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so"

Very luxurious; the hotel itself is mindblowing. It's got a huge garden all around--imagine that in the center of Tokyo. It's a refuge from Tokyo's hectic pace and a vacation setting without equal in the city – nestled in historic, tranquil Chinzan-so Gardens. Unparalleled comfort and opulent bathrooms in the city's largest guest rooms. Luxurious spa and club. Acclaimed cuisine.

GonpachiBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Gonpachi recreates the atmosphere of old Japan. Special seats are available for drinking sake, and the private rooms are arranged to allow a good view of the high-ceilinged restaurant. The top floor of the sushi restaurant has garden seats allowing you to escape and forget the busy city and for special occasions. The menu consists of handmade soba, original Japanese dishes using seasonal ingredients, grilled dishes, and sushi (both traditional and the original hand-rolled kind). Enjoy these feasts with the best Japanese sake and shochu, or an original cocktail. Lunch costs ¥1,200, and dinner is ¥3,500 (¥6,500 for dinner in the sushi restaurant). Koyzumi, the Japanese prime minister, took George. W. Bush to eat there.
