The Indian Pacific brings back the civilized way of travel. Since I was alone, I has a roomette. During the day, I had a chair, small table, and footrest, and at night I had my own cocoon. I am a bit claustrophic, but not here. It was a cozy room. I did spend most of my time in the lounge car, making new friends from all over Australia and some from New Zealand. The seasoned train riders pointed out sites I shouldn't miss. The meals in the dining car were excellent. Our first stopover was in Broken Hill, where we saw the BHP mining operation, then a visit to the Flying Drs headquarters. Finally, there was a walk through town to see the hotel used in "Priscilla Queen of the Desert."
