This is about tourism of Devon versus life in the home of cream tea.

The sheer beauty of the Exe river mouth. The Warren has its own little nature reserve. There are boat trips from Teignmouth and Starcross. The wonderful Powderham Castle has jousting every day through the summer. The crowning glory is the Dartmoor National Park just on the doorstep.

Quick Tips:

Come prepared, as the English seaside trip is not a cheap one. Until I lived in a holiday destination, I did not fully understand the impact that the tourist has on the populace, so come with the idea that you are the guest and act accordingly; you will not find more caring, friendly, open, kindly people anywhere in the country if you treat them with respect.

Best Way To Get Around:

The bus 85/85A from Exeter. At time of writing, a £17 Goldrider ticket (one adult) takes you anywhere you wish to go on the Stagecoach bus network for seven days.
This is an incredible place, with 330 acres of woodland and grassland--absolutely beautiful. You can take your tent, your caravan, or rent a lodge; they vary from simple to awesome luxury (complete with a small sauna). The park has gym facilities, a fishing lake, activities for children, and a swimming pool; you are right on the edge of Dartmoor.

Activity

This is a local's watering hole. If the locals like it, it definitely has a certain something. It has a charming, friendly atmosphere with a typical seaman's decor. There is good food, good drinks, and good company.

This is far from a cheap day out. It's a place you should spend no more than an hour, and be aware that small children will want you to spend your entire holiday allowance winning that low-quality toy. Beware of the tea and coffee - true, it is free, but...
