Dead Sea - Amman, Jordan

A July 2004 trip to Amman by samer_k

Marriott Dead Sea More Photos

This was a relaxing getaway. The resorts are top-notch, and the spas are fantastic! The food was delicious. The Dead Sea itself was a bit tricky to swim in, but I will tell you more!

Dead Sea
Highlights included the Marriott Dead Sea, Movepick Spa and Resort, the views, and the food!

Quick Tips:

My suggestion is to book ahead of time, as it seems like there are always specials. We stayed at the Marriott for about and had a pool-view room. A lush breakfast for two was included. Check the marriott.com website.

Also, the Movenpick is nice and has more of a village atmosphere. They are within walking distance of one another, and you can use each one’s facilities. Even though we stayed at the Marriott, we used the spa of the Movenpick.

Best Way To Get Around:

You really don't once need transportation once you get to resort. All there is to really do is at the hotel. It is hot, so swimming is the main activity, as is going to the therapeutic spas. The Dead Sea is about 30 to 40 minutes from Amman.

Marriott Dead Sea
This was really a nice brand-new hotel and the hotel du jour for now. They keep building over there it seems. The nice thing was the way the pools were set up. They have waterfalls and slides, and they are staggered. In fact, they all overlook the Dead Sea, and it is a really nice sight!

They have a good selection of restaurants. They have an American-style restaurant/sports bar, Italian restaurant, and Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant.

Rooms were spacious and extremely comfortable. Try to request pool-view/sea-view room if you can.

We had breakfast here, as it was included in our rate, and you don’t want to miss it. It was a very good breakfast and well worth it.

I definitely plan to go back!

Restaurant

They have everything, from spring rolls to Mongolian food to stir-fry. There was very authentic Asian food. After we kept the staff there busy for a long time, we moved outdoors, which was a nice area, and had the famous Movepick ice cream, which you must have.

Movenpick is a Swiss company famous for its restaurants and ice cream, and now, nice resorts.

Restaurant

This is a classic Arabic place. The restaurant is located on a hill. I was told that is used to be an old horse ranch. Now it has classical Arabic music and waiters dressed in traditional clothing serving very typical Arabic snacks, baked goods, and other authentic cuisine.

It is very popular with tourists who want to see a typical Middle Eastern setting, as it decorated with various rugs, wall tapestries, and bronze decorations. The music and atmosphere will take you back to the old ways and traditions of the area.

I am from the Middle East originally, and even to me it was authentic and a good time. Don't forget to drink the various hot teas after your meal!

Well, I have had massages and other treatments before. Along with my cousins and friends, we all made reservations for a few hours at the spa next door. We were staying in the Marriott, and the resort next to us, the Movenpick, had a nice spa with a salt-water pool.

It was great! We had total-body mud wraps after we got out of the steam room. The mud was warm, but they say it is good for your skin. I was relaxed, and it felt pretty good.

After that we cleaned up and swam in a special salt-water pool. It wasn’t just any salt water; it was the water from the Dead Sea! It took some getting used to!! It was neat. After that we went to another pool that overlooked the Dead Sea.

The treatment basically cost us about $60 per person. They have all kinds of packages.
