A February 2005 trip to Puerto Vallarta by kcorner

This was a beautiful town in Mexico, perhaps the best Mexico has to offer. There were nice beaches, nice weather, a nice town, and nice restaurants. It was somewhat touristy, but a 10-mile drive or short boat trip gets you away from it all.

Lie on the beach; eat guacamole; take a Canopy Tour De Los Verranos; splurge on a dinner at Cafe Des Artistes; buy silver jewelry.

Quick Tips:

In the "rainy season", everything is much cheaper - but it only rains about one hour each afternoon, and it helps to keep the humidity down.

Best Way To Get Around:

We rented a car - very easy to drive around and park. Buses and taxis are everywhere.
This was a beautiful five-bedroom, five-bathroom home. There was a nice kitchen, an indoor hot tub, and an outdoor pool. It is built into hillside, and you go two flights down and through the jungle to a private wade pool and the ocean. There is a grill by the water and private bar by the pool. The daily maid service did an excellent job!

We ate in the private Thierry Blouet Dining Room for Valentine's Day. The staff was wonderful, the food delicious, the ambience darling. Excellent wine list. Perhaps the best dining in PV.

This was the best Italian in PV. Try the bruschetta. They have multiple types of ravioli and the fresh seafood pasta is bursting with shrimp, scallops, etc. They have a decent wine list. Request to sit in the back garden.

Great guacamole made at your table; huge, yummy chimichangas. A touch touristy, but very tasty. Massive margaritas in various flavours. Attractive restaurant, friendly staff, clean facilities.

This is the longest and most professional canopy tour in Puerto Vallarta. Basically, you get harnessed into zip cords and fly through the air, through the jungle, over gorges and rivers, on 16 separate zip lines. Staff is very helpful and speak excellent English. Very well-trained. I felt very safe. What a thrill! Also, the bar/cafe is nice, drinks/food is good. The cafe overlooks the river and has man-made slides built so you can take a dip between rounds!
