I'll just give you a couple places I checked out while NOT at the convention center, which were very few, as the poster sessions and seminars were excellent and not to be missed. I'm looking forward to November 2005 in Washington, D.C.

Restaurant

Anchors aweigh
Many small restaurants line the dock area in between the hotel/convention area and the retired USS Midway...

Ice cream to seafood, burgers, and fries--it's all there. A bit touristy, but okay.

Attraction

The pool by the garden
Balboa Park has a lot going on. There are museums to check out and the Spanish Village is right next door, where you can buy expensive artisan art. Or you could just stroll around to relax.

Story/Tip

Crocodile
We took a half-day at the San Diego Zoo, which is an absolutely fabulous place to check out all kinds of caged wild-life!

I recommend the place as a full-day excursion, but I had to be back at the convention center for an evening presentation.
