Lawrence Welk Resort Villas and San Diego

The Lawrence Welk Resort is right in the middle of everything. I drove to Carlsbad and spent a day on the beach, to Palm Springs for a day of shopping and dining, and to Temecula for the hot-air balloon rides and the wine country.

Quick Tips:

There is a great outlet mall on the way to Palm Springs. It has a Coach outlet and many other fun shops.

Best Way To Get Around:

Renting a car is probably the best way to get around. If you stay right in San Diego, you can get by with public transportation, but if you go to the outskirts at all, you will need a car. There are several car rental locations at the airport, like in most cities.

Best Things Nearby:
The San Diego Animal Park is close by and a lot of fun. The train ride through the park is about 1 hour, so if you have little ones, they may get restless. We went midday, and it was very hot and the animals were not moving around much. An early evening trip would probably be better. The snacks were very expensive and not worth the money. If you can take your own snacks, you will be better off.

Best Things About the Resort:
Since my last visit to this resort, they have added more amenities. They now have six swimming pools, a water slide, and a small water park for the kids.

Resort Experience:
The resort is great, and most the units are right on the golf course. The scenery is beautiful. I love the shops at the resort, and the Broadway theater has some great shows. You are close enough to drive to San Diego, Carlsbad, or even Palm Springs. There are some great outlet malls on the way to Palm Springs.

Another fun place to check out is Temechula. It is in between Palm Springs and the resort and has some wineries and some fun places to eat. It is an easy day trip.
