There truly is nothing like Venice! No matter what you've seen and heard, you have to be there! In a short stay, it made me want to plan a return trip already...

Overview

Venice
Gondola Ride, St. Mark's Square, walking and getting lost in the canals!, island of Burano

Quick Tips:

Be prepared to walk a lot! Canals can be confusing, especially if you are there for a short period. Vaporettos (water bus) may strike at an inopportune times, and you can pay a cool - for a 10-minute ride to get you around! Hotels are expensive, so try to shop around. If you have limited time, do stay on or near the canals; it is worth it.

Best Way To Get Around:

We took the rail to Venice, and from there we walked and used the Vaporreto (water bus). The water bus can also take you to nearby islands like Murano, Burano, etc.

This was luxury all right! Truly very elegant. It is said that this was a former Embassy for France. The rooms have antique furniture, lush carpet, and the bathroom is all in marble and just great! Wow, we enjoyed it even though it was a very short stay. They have free transport to St Mark's Square. I didn't eat there, though. The average night there was about $330, but we paid $180. It is a quieter side of the canals, not far from the open seas...

Gondola Ride
We reserved a sunset group gondola ride, and we really didn't notice everyone else... It was great; how could you go to Venice and not have a gondola ride?

Attraction

We took a boat and spent about 3 hours there. It is a tiny island, and sure, you can buy some souvenirs. We had lunch in their small town square, walked, had some gelati, and walked around the mini-canals and admired the multi-colored homes.
