Quote: This was my second time at the Mayan Palace. Again, we enjoyed the great pool, the beach, going to town, restaurants, the cliff divers, and the markets. The surroundings are very beautiful.

The rooms at the Mayan Palace are not anything fancy and sort of plain. They are very clean. You have all you need to cook, and there are two telephones, two TV's, one king-size bed, and two sofa sleepers (we had a one-bedroom). There was maid service every day, and at night the maid would turn down the bed and leave a chocolate kiss on the pillows. One thing I would have liked was a bigger balcony to sit on in the morning with my coffee. The balcony that is there is useless; it's too narrow. You can only just stand there.

Whether you went for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the food was always good, but it is expensive. It is more expensive than when I was there in September 2003. For breakfast you can either have the American breakfast or the buffet. The buffet is all-you-can-eat and good. Every day the food was from a different region of Mexico. But again, it is expensive (the buffet was 155 pesos and the American was 119 pesos).

The service was not very good. Just about every meal was missing something, or they brought the wrong thing, or it took them forever to get back to you. But they were right there for their tip!

Balche is the pool bar. They have fast food (although they ARE NOT fast), like hot dogs, hamburgers, quesadillas, and chips with the BEST salsa and guacamole! Oh, and of course they have beer and margaritas.

Again, the service is not so good (unless you get one of the FEW waiters/waitresses who speak English). Again, just about every meal was wrong or missing something, or the staff member just did not return too fast. We waited for extra salsa so long that the food was gone.
