Bad Ass Bistro
Don't be fooled by the catchy names of these pubs. The places are indeed very welcoming, the staff is extremely nice, and the atmosphere promises a totally relaxing time. I enjoyed the decoration at Bad Ass, with comfy leather couches and plenty on the walls to look at! It is great to go to with your friends!

We headed to Edinburgh to spend the weekend there with a group of loud friends and chose a nice youth hostel on Grass Market near Cowgate. The Three Sisters (which had been a buzzword on campus!) was just around the corner, so I couldn't miss the opportunity to check it out. Indeed, its popularity was well-deserved--they played good music at the three different bars. It was also quite amazing to see what a diverse clientele the place had! The age range is pretty wide, but I felt that this was only adding to the good fun! However, there seemed to be something wrong with their air-conditioning... Apart from the fact that the place was fully packed, the heat was progressively rising during the couple of hours that I beared to stay there. But I strongly recommend the club (especially to those of you who enjoy having fun in big hot crowds!). Enjoy!

Grass Market on a Friday night is THE place to be if you are a boarding school student-escapee on a budget or just looking to meet nice people and have good fun! I was the former myself and found that there are numerous ways you can spend a pretty busy night clubbing and pubbing without spending too much.

My friends and I headed out of our youth hostel room at about 10:30pm, which apparently was the rush hour for all the people handing flyers for different gigs and specialties around Edinburgh. I hadn't heard of Gaia before, but the flyer's discount was worth the try. Given other circumstances, I would not have been particularly attracted by the location and entrance of the club. However, the music was good and the atmosphere was very relaxed - it would be the perfect location to hide and totally unwind. It also seemed like a singles' scene. The best thing at the end of the night (3am) is Gaia's close proximity to Grass Market's crepes' stand, a joy to the senses and an opportunity to carry on a real conversation with the nice people you've met that night.

There is nothing like a walk out at night - go up the castle or watch it illuminated from a quiet place. There is plenty going on all year-round, so you can turn a visit to Edinburgh into an unforgettable experience.
