A number of tourists choose to stay in Negril undoubtedly to partake in the party atmosphere and the libidinous all-inclusive resorts like Hedonism. But Negril is a wonderful vacation spot for nature lovers, who will appreciate the crytal clear water and amazing sunsets. After somewhat lackluster beaching options in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios I was thrilled to lounge on the clean white sands of Seven Mile Beach, listening to the gentle waves lap the shore. Hanging out at Rick's Cafe with other single folks my age was a nice change from the couple-heavy resort experience I had been exposed to all week. And diving off the alarmingly high cliff wall was certainly something that I won't soon forget....Read More

We didn''t stay overnight at the Negril Gardens resort, so my impressions of it might be different than someone who spent a while in the area. As part of a day tour to Negril from Montego Bay we were allowed to use Negril Gardens as a base camp, with access to their facilities, eating their food and drinking their liquor. The resort campus is divided into two sections, with most of the rooms across the street from the beach in a manicured lawn area. Most of the buildings looked rather basic and underwhelming, and the meal area was quite Spartan. Food was served in the bar area during the afternoon, which ended up being great in that it was located right on Seven Mile Beach. While the meal was ...Read More

Most folks who visit Rick's Cafe just grab a drink from the outside bar and stand about on the patio, hoping to catch a nice view of the sunset. But as we had a lot of time to kill before the evening and wanted to sit for a while, we grabbed a bite from the restaurant at Rick's. The food is nothing more than what's offered on your standard pub menu back in the States, but costs as much as a fine dining establishment. You're much better off grabbing a snack from of the roadside jerk stands and then following it with a drink from Rick's Cafe bar afterwards.

Seven Mile Beach is exactly how I imagined the beaches of Jamaica would be: soft white sand, perfectly clear water, and warm sun coupled with gentle breezes. After some disappointing beach experiences in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Negril's Seven Mile Beach restored my faith in the appeal of the Caribbean.

The beach is also amusing in that all day long a steady stream on fun seeking vacationers are partying on the beach. While there is something to be said about enjoying the solitude and relaxation of the ocean, it's easy to get caught up in the good spirits of everyone traipsing up and down the shoreline.

This popular tourist destination is a happening outdoor patio bar that draws the crowds in with the promise of the most amazing sunset they will ever witness. And indeed the blazing sun looked like it would melt right into the water after flooding the skies with red and orange light.

The crowd was fun and appreciative of the beautiful sight. Fairly young and partying compared to other places we had checked out in Jamaica, Rick's Cafe is a great place to meet new folks and knock back a few expensive drinks. It's also where you can catch the crazy folks diving off the nearby cliffs, or dive off yourself if so inclined.

Initially, my friend and I went up to Rick's Cafe to catch the sunset, and were amused by the kids who decided they would emulate the locals by jumping off the rather high cliffs into the ocean. After a few minutes and three pina coladas, however, the ides of jumping the cliff seemed to make perfect sense. We were told that the high cliff was over a hundred feet above the water, and standing on its edge it was easy enough to believe. In hindsight, however, it probably is not such an extreme drop. Crashing into the water feet first hurt a little and my swim trunks almost came off from the force of hitting the water, but it was all over in two or three seconds. There is a smaller cliff be...Read More
