Beautiful Snowdonia

Overview

Quote:
The view from the top of Mt. Snowdon is incredible!

Quick Tips:

Food in the 'touristy' areas can get expensive...instead, we bought groceries and packed a lunch when we went touring.

Best Way To Get Around:

We had a car, which made getting around very easy. (Except, of course, for the fact that it was a European car, meant for driving on "the other side" of the road!)

We camped in a farmer''s field. There were washrooms, with running water, and showers, but other than that, no amenities. However, it did have the advantage of being VERY CHEAP...three pounds per night to park our tent in the field.

The walk between the ''facilities'' and our tent had to be made carefully...the sheep were rotated through all the fields, including the camping field, and had left their calling cards in the grass.

Sygun Copper Mine

Attraction

Tourists are given hard hats, and sent into the mine. The self-directed tour takes you through different levels of the mine. There are A/V stations set up in different parts, which give further information about the history of the mine.

The tour ends up higher up the mountain than you begin, and the view from up there is beautiful.

King Arthur's Labyrinth

Attraction

Quote:
King Arthur's Labyrinth was set up inside the workings of the Braich Goch Slate Mine, and is a tour through time. Outfitted with hard hats, we climbed into the boat that would lead us into the Labyrinth. Our tour guide was wearing long, flowing robes, and took us through the labyrinth, both by boat and on foot.

In different parts of the Labyrinth, there were scenes set up with mannequins and other props, depicting the story of King Arthur's life. We saw him defeat the king with the cloak of beards, and heard the story of the soldier who refused to throw Excalibur, Arthur's sword, into the lake.

Mount Snowdon is the highest point in England and Wales, and by far, one of the windiest! If you have the time, I'd recommend taking the hiking trail up the mountain, and making a day of it. We were trying to see a few different things on our last full day in Wales, so we opted for the train ride up to the top. The winds can get very strong...enough that the trains which take tourists to the top of the mountain could get grounded. When you buy tickets on a windy day, you are warned that if the winds reach a certain speed (around 60 m.p.h.), then the train will not go to the top. There are certain stopping points which are the maximum train height when the winds are up. Luckily, we ...Read More
