This was our first trip to China. We visited Beijing, flew north to Harbin, then ended up back in Beijing. I didn't know what to expect, but the areas we saw were amazing and the language was no barrier. Beijing was no colder than Atlanta, and there were no crowds!

Peninsula Palace Hotel

Easily one of the best hotels I have enjoyed. Top service, plasma televisions in the room and bath, Mercedes or Rolls airport transfers, all of which is reasonably priced. Stay on the club level as breakfast is included, as is tea and a terrific happy hour. If there were not so many great restaurants to try, you could happily eat in the lounge. The concierge services were great.

Liqun Roast Duck

This was a find. The restaurant is in the hutongs, but it’s worth finding someone to direct you. Our duck was ordered in advance, so when we arrived, we ordered soup, rabe, and duck liver with mushrooms. We were served huge quantities and very, very good food.
