Great Week in Mexico

Take a quick taxi ride from the airport so you get to your resort fast. Go outside the airport, over the bridge that goes over the road, and get your taxi here. It WILL be cheaper than right from the airport. I like the fact that we could walk to town in about 20 to 30 minutes. Downtown PV is GREAT. The malecon (boardwalk) is a hub of activity every night. Also, make sure to go into Old Town Vallarta. It has so much character, great restaurants, and a nicer beach called Los Muertos.

Quick Tips:

If you are a beer drinker, there are two-for-one deals every night from 4 to 6pm or 5 to 8pm, or something like that. Lots of restaurants will give out coupons for another location if they have one, usually for a percentage off and a free margarita.

Best Way To Get Around:

We walked a lot, but the cobblestone roads and walkways can be hard on the legs. A local bus marked Centro costs only 4 pesos and runs almost every minute it seemed. Just flag it down when you want to get on. Taxis aren't too expensive either. It was only 35 pesos (approximately .50) from the Sheraton to Old Vallarta

We had a very spacious one-bedroom unit with a king-size bed; a large washroom with a great shower; and a kitchen with a mini fridge, two-burner stovetop range, microwave, blender, toaster, coffeemaker and full set of dishes and utensils. There was also a pull-out couch. We had a main-floor walkout to right in front of the pool. The grounds are very nicely kept, and there is a beautiful pool and hot tub.

This had absolutely the BEST food we had. We went back a second time. There was nothing fancy or a great variety, but what we had left us wanting more. The mushroom and cheese quesadilla was FANTASTIC.

We went here twice and had different foods each time. The first was like a chicken stirfry (can't remember the name) and very good. Next time I had the BEST tortilla soup, which would have been enough, but then I pigged out on the Mexican combo. There is a great view of the Malecon from the upstairs as well.

We ate lunch and breakfast here and watched the Super Bowl, as well. Lunch was a very good enchilada, while hubby had a good old Canadian burger. Breakfast was cheap and tasty. They start you off with coffee and Mexican breads, and then you order. I had Mexican eggs, which were good and not as spicy as I expected. It was probably the best coffee we had in PV. It had a slight cinnamon flavor to it, and we drank it black, which we never do. The bar was packed for the football game, and it was a lot of fun, as every time a touchdown was scored it was a free round of tequila shooters, if you dared. We ended that evening with coffee and a very good cheesecake.
