A January 2005 trip to Bonaire by lotsatoysny

Quote: This was the best diving we've experienced so far. There were huge fish and lots of marine life. The southern tip is the lushest in marine life. The food was only okay. Rib Factory and Donna & Georgio's were great. I would definitely go back.

Overview

Quote:
Dive, dive, and dive. There is not too much in terms of nightlife. I think there is one club on the island near the casino where the locals hang out. There are also no beaches. This island is solely for the diver/snorkeler.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Definitely have a truck rental. Get around; see the rest of the island. It's a small island, so you can see most of it in just a day.

Black Durgon

Hotel

This resembles a boy scout camp. All the rooms were different and right off the water. We had our own pier and area for tanks, etc. Beds were made every day. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 8:30am. There was a communal kitchen. All rooms had air-conditioning, but rooms only had one towel per person and were a bit small. If you're on a tight budget, this place will do.

Donna & Giorgio's

They have pasta, pizza, and some other dishes. Seating is mainly outdoor/semi-indoor. There is a very relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed the pizza and pasta dishes, especially considering we were on an island. No New York pizza here, but it's definitely worth the trip for the pizza and price. You can also order takeout.

This was mostly a steak-and-ribs joint. Located on the second floor of the Harborside Mall, it has a pretty good view from the tables that border the railing. Everything was great. We would have loved to make a second trip there that week.

This is located at Habitat. Seating is outdoors, overlooking the ocean. There is an outdoor bar that makes excellent drinks. Try the pina colada or blue banana blast. The menu has a little bit of everything, like ribs, sushi, pasta, and steak. The food was great, and so was the service.

Scuba Diving

Attraction

Quote:
Our accommodations provided us with unlimited diving. We just loaded the trucks and toured the island. There was some incredible diving on this island. Check out Hilma Hooker, Small Wall, Invisibles, Pink Beach, Sweet Dreams, Kapana, etc. A friend of ours had a local book that listed all the dive sites. Just pick any one of them. They all offer superb marine life.

We saw two baby sea turtles, a barracuda, a puffer fish, plenty of parrot fish, and two small octopi. The more lush environments are toward the southern tip of Bonare (like where Sweet Dreams is located). This island is highly recommended for divers and snorkelers alike.
