Zurich on a Winter Day

A February 2005 trip to Zurich by Pyra

Expectations too high? The city is interesting but doesn't come across as warm. It has extremes in wealth and tastes, it's no real charm, and it's dirty. The left side is tasteless, and the right side has high prices.

The center is easily reached by tram (buy a ticket or day pass in the hotel or at a tram stop) within 10 to 15 minutes. The hotel is small city hotel that is convenient and employs a very friendly staff. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom is small, and the bathtub is uncomfortably small, even for showering.

There is no Wifi or cable. There are two good restaurants nearby (Gonzalez and a really, really good Chinese restaurant).

They have excellent food and wines, and you get very friendly and attentive treatment by Romy and Emilio Gonzalez. In the summer there is a garden restaurant. Both the fish/seafood and meat dishes are of high standards. What else is there to say?
