Snow King Resort is Absolutely the Best!

Taking a sleigh ride into the National Elk Refuge was so awesome. For per person, you are loaded onto a cozy sleigh behind beautiful horses and driven into the refuge, where you come within just feet of huge, gorgeous elk. For about 1 hour you are driven through the refuge with a well-educated guide and given so many photo-ops of these beautiful, peaceful creatures.

Quick Tips:

If you are a bargain shopper like me, Jackson has several great local thrift shops right on the main drag. I love thrift stores, so it was neat to go to one full of ski pants, snowsuits, and lots of great warm clothes in case you forgot any and didn't want to spend a fortune on some.

Also, if you want to save some money on ski rentals and lift tickets, ski at night at the local slopes. They are less crowded, very cheap, and available from around 3 to 8pm at most ski slopes. At Snow King Resort, if you were a guest there, it was free and the only cost was your rental fee.

Best Way To Get Around:

The Start Bus is the main public transportation and only per person. It will take you anywhere you want to go, no rental car needed.

Best Things Nearby:
The ski center, ice skating, snow tubing, snow mobiling, and dog sledding are all nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
The lodge-style rooms, the free shuttles, and the accessibility to everything and to town were the best things.

Resort Experience:
It’s like living in your own lodge set along the base of a beautiful mountain, with access to a lot of downtown things while not being exposed to it. You are in the country while in the city. It’s so cozy, so friendly, so accessible. The free shuttles to and from the airport you won't find anywhere else. You can walk to town or take a free shuttle. The food at the Atrium restaurant on the second floor is scrumptious. The friendly, helpful staff is so wonderful. Staying at any other resort in Jackson would leave you unsatisfied and asking yourself why; save the drama and stay at Snow King.

They have the BEST salsa I've ever tasted. The chips are hot and crispy, just the way they should be. Every bit of the salsa and chips is made fresh throughout the day! It is home-cooked and all natural--no lard, MSG, or any other harmful ingredients. We absolutely recommend this little piece of heaven. Its a favorite of the locals, and a small quaint restaurant. You will be a merry little piglet when you leave here.

If you do anything in Jackson Hole, go snowmobiling. The best tour guide is Leisure Sport Adventures in Jackson Hole. Brian and Jen, the owners, will pick you up at your resort and take you to the rental shop to suit you up for the big ride and then drive you out to your snowmobile adventure spot. (I recommend Granite Hot Springs where you ride 20 miles up into the Grovant Mountian range and then slip into your bathing suit and slip into the 110°F waters of the granite hot springs – heavenly.) Then they guide you safely through your adventure, sometimes even off the beaten path. You'll pass by other adventurers, such as the dog sledders, which we didn't do, but it looked like they were having such a nice time. Leisure Sports Adventures has the best prices and the friendliest, warmest, most accommodating business people you'll come in contact with.

The best time to venture into Jackson Hole, I think, is the end of January to the first part of February. It's kind of a down time there, the ski slopes are not crowded, and every hotel has great prices. (Of course, I would never stay anywhere else besides Snow King Resort.) Airlines are cheap this time of year too. Oh, one more thing: go snow-tubing while you are there! Talk about fun! For all ages and sizes, snow-tubing is a blast! And it's right by Snow King Resort (everything is!).
