A February 2004 trip

Quote: This journal describes what I consider to be the greatest and best place I have found, and I have visited many places. This tiny island of only 8 square miles is a place that a person must get to in their lifetime.
The views are what attract most people, with almost every villa having a panoramic view of the ocean, or what is one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. Surrounding the harbor is Gustavia, the largest town on the island, though it is very tiny and really the only town. In this town, you will find most of the designer names, like Cartier, Prada, and many more. Another highlight is the beaches, though some are harder to get to than others, like Anse A Colombier and Anse de Grande Saline, which seem to mix just the right amount of surf and sand. While there is a beach with rather high surf, many of the beaches are very calm, my favorite being Anse de Grande Saline, which has moderate surf. The best highlight is the relaxation you will feel while on this 8-square-mile island; it is second to none.
My second suggestion would be to rent a villa. There are a few hotels, most of which are very nice. Most of the villas are located on mountains, creating very great views, and my favorite location is Colombier, with a view of the town and the sea. Though it is up to your personal preference, the hotels do offer great food and nice rooms, and the villas offer more freedom and more room. They also come with a maid service almost every day.
The third suggestion is to be prepared to spend a small fortune, since the average price of the pizza is 30 euros and the average price of a villa for a week is 5,000 euros.
