Weekend in Dartmouth Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Quote:
There are many things to do in Dartmouth for every age level. I particularly love the MicMac Mall. It is four levels of shopping and restaurants, and if you go at Christmas time, you will have the honour of seeing Woody the Talking Christmas tree. The huge 100-foot or so tree will talk to each individual child, commenting on their outfits, etc. Marios restaurant is in this mall, and they have the most awesome food! Dartmouth also has alot of history and great old graveyards. There are several museums and the downtown is very small but quaint. The ferry will take you over to Halifax and it is a very nice 10 minute or so ride. Quick Tips: There are kiosks in all the malls (Penhorn Mall, Mi...Read More

This hotel is close to everything. If you walk out the front doors, you can see the Dartmouth Shopping centre across the street, the Halifax bridge on your left, the downtown area on your right, and the library across the street. As for the actual hotel, the rooms were nice, and the hotel seemed very up-to-date. The staff was friendly, but... the rooms were a little small. We had a good stay, and I would recommend this hotel, although there is only an outdoor pool. The restaurant on-site is quite nice, but we preferred the price of the Zellers restaurant across the street.

Ahhh, the smell, the atmosphere, the service, the food... all excellent. The portions are VERY large and VERY tasty. I have had the pesto several times and never regretted it. The sauce is amazing. The atmosphere is bright and colorful, probably not the best if you don't like bright, fun, and noisy!

Salty's Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
Salty's is nice but a little pricey upstairs. The food is great, and the location is perfect, on the Halifax waterfront. We took the ferry over from Dartmouth, and it was a 2-minute lesuirely stroll to the restaurant. The atmosphere was quite sophisticated and classy. We were able to watch the waterfront and the ferry. Downstairs is a different story; it is a lot more casual and laid-back. We had seafood chowder that was thick and tasty. The portions were good for a bowl of chowder, and we were full afterward. The deserts were tempting and looked divine, but we were too full to sample them.

We wandered for at least an hour, looking at the many animals in the park. The bear and the moose were the most interesting, though. The trails are wide and smooth so that it is wheelchair-accessible. There is a huge pond where you can feed the ducks, as well as a large penned-in area with deer that you can feed. You need to bring your own food, as there is nowhere on site to buy any.

This place is a lot of fun, and I am really not a big country and western fan, but everyone in this bar has a good time and is happy, unlike many rock bars that I have been in. Everyone gets up and dances to the live band and whoops and hollers. The bar is within walking distance to the Dartmouth Ferry and the Dartmouth shopping centre. Cabs are always close by if you need one. I don't think we paid a cover charge, and the drinks were average-priced.
