Normal Day at Mt. Baldy

Overview

Quote:
If interested, before you reach the lifts, their is a campground with tons of snow play available for all ages. Bring your own sleds; but in case you didn't, you can purchase some at the deli/rental hut in the middle. Quick Tips: Lift Tickets run about for adult and for students. Rental equipment is for skiers and for snowboarders (includes everything). Don't count on the website to tell you the truth about what's open, call the snow phone!! Best Way To Get Around: The best way to get to Mt. Baldy from Orange County is to take 57 north to the 210 East and exit at Mountain Avenue. Make a left when you exit and follow the road when it ends. There will be 20 minutes of mountain d...Read More

Restaurant

This is the only restaurant for you while you are at the top of the mountain, so unless you like burgers and sandwiches, we suggest you pack a lunch. They have a bar for all you lush skiers and drunk snowboarders. It's around $4 to $6 for the average sandwich (not including drinks), and for resort food, it's decent. Soup is good, though! Anyway, the bar is stocked with liquor and beer of all tastes. Food ranges from cold turkey, roast beef, pizza, burgers, chicken, salad, and numerous breakfast items.

After a snowstorm, there is no better place to go than Mt. Baldy. It is located about 40 minutes from the heart of Orange County. When you first start driving there, it appears that there will be no resort, and if there is one, then there will definitely be no snow. After about 15 minutes of mountain driving, Mt. Baldy Road ends, and you come up on the resort. Come early because the best skiing is in the morning. Lifts usually start running around 8am, and they are usually in full operation by around 9am. Be patient, because it's a small resort with a low budget, but they more than make up for being slow by having no lift lines and usually always have supreme, unpacked conditions.

Story/Tip

Chair #1- If open for skiing, you have a few options: you can go left and drop down behind the rental shop, turn around, and drop down right, where you came up; or traverse up and to the right to hit a double diamond called Bentley's run. Either way you choose to go, you will end up down at the bottom of chair 1. Overall, the length is excellent for this run, covering about 1,300 vertical feet. Chair #2- When you get off chair #1, go straight and follow the bend around the mountain; this is a short run, but is the only beginner run on the mountain. It's of decent length, and when you get to the bottom, make a left to get on Chair #2 or continue straight towards chair #3. When open, only chair ...Read More
