Best Date Place in Manhattan

An October 2004 trip to New York by donpaulo

Quote: The Staten Island Ferry simply is the best bang for the buck on the whole island. Leave sometime before sunset; as you depart Manhattan, the sun glints off the glass and rock of the buildings. You return to the lights of the city skyline.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

It’s a no-brainer, the MTA subway system is not only convenient but the fastest way to get around the city. Although I must admit that the BEST way to see NYC is to walk it. Buses and taxis pretty much both waste time and money.

Take a walk down Park Avenue starting around 72nd Street to the Pan Am Building, ending up within the bowels of Grand Central Station. Classic! Then walk across 42nd Street to Times Square. From there you can walk up Broadway, seeing all the famous theaters up past Carnegie Hall on 59th Street, OR walk down 7th Avenue to the shopping mecca that is 34th Street. You won't be disappointed.

John's Pizzeria

Restaurant | "John's Pizza or Ray's Pizza"

Quote:
John's is one of my old favorites. Located on Bleecker Street near 7th Avenue, the quality has slipped a bit over the years, but it still qualifies as a top-notch NY pizza place. There are no slices.

Ray's, on the other hand, is all about slices, although you can get a pie here, too. Many places claim to be the original Rays, but the first and best one is on the corner of West 11th Street and 6th Avenue. It's heaven on Earth and probably the best pizza in the world.
